Children first
We begin with the well-being of students and educators and consider the needs of every school community.
Building safer schools through community, collaboration, and meaningful action.
Because every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and return home safely.
Every Child Comes Home exists to support meaningful improvements to school safety through community fundraising, responsible partnerships, and professionally informed decisions—beginning in Springfield, Oregon, with a long-term vision to support schools across the state.
We begin with the well-being of students and educators and consider the needs of every school community.
Parents, schools, safety professionals, and local supporters each bring experience and ideas worth hearing.
We aim to fund appropriate, independently reviewed and district-approved safety improvements—not one predetermined product.
Where a mother's fear became a mission.
Every Child Comes Home wasn't born from one news story or one moment of fear. It began with a worry I had carried for years, long before I ever imagined starting a nonprofit.
School violence is not new, and unfortunately, neither is the fear that comes with it. For years, I've watched stories unfold of families sending their children to school for an ordinary day, never imagining that everything could change in an instant. Every time, I've found myself asking the same question: How can we keep letting this happen in places where our children are supposed to feel safe?
Then I became a mother, and that fear became something much more personal.
There is a certain kind of trust that comes with sending your children to school each morning. You pack their backpacks, kiss them goodbye, tell them you love them, and trust that you'll see them again when the school day ends. It's such a simple, everyday thing, and yet it's something I've found myself worrying about more than I ever imagined I would.
When I heard about the shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, that familiar fear hit especially close to home. But this time, instead of allowing it to become another worry I carried, I started asking myself a different question.
What if I could actually do something?
I didn't have all the answers. I didn't have experience in school safety, a background in fundraising, or a roadmap for starting an organization. What I did have was a determination to try.
I began researching protective classroom shelters, wondering why something designed to offer children another layer of protection wasn't more widely available. But the more I learned, the more I realized that keeping schools safe is so much bigger than any one piece of equipment.
It's about listening to educators, learning from safety professionals, understanding what schools truly need, and bringing communities together to help provide resources that might otherwise be out of reach.
And that's how Every Child Comes Home began.
Not because I believe I have all the answers, but because I believe that when parents, educators, safety professionals, and communities come together, we can make a meaningful difference.
My hope is to build an organization that doesn't simply fund one improvement and walk away, but becomes a lasting resource for schools and the people who dedicate their lives to our children.
We're starting here in Springfield, Oregon, where my own children attend school. But my dream is to one day help schools and families throughout our entire state.
Because at the end of the day, no matter where we live, what school our children attend, or what our backgrounds may be, we all share one simple hope.
Our hope is simple
That every child who leaves for school in the morning gets to come home.
School safety doesn't have a one-size-fits-all solution. Our goal is to be a long-term resource—not to fund a purchase and walk away.
Learn from school leaders, educators, families, and qualified safety professionals.
Consider evidence, feasibility, accessibility, life-safety requirements, and long-term maintenance.
Develop responsible fundraising goals for approved equipment, training, and preparedness needs.
Account for charitable funds, report progress without disclosing sensitive security details, and plan for sustainability.
We are in our organizational development and partnership-building phase. We believe that thoughtful preparation is part of meaningful progress.
We're focused on building the foundations for responsible, community-supported school safety projects—not collecting funds before we know what can safely and realistically be accomplished.
Progress reflects organizational steps and conversations, not formal endorsements or approved installations.
If you're an educator, family member, community partner, or organization interested in supporting responsibly planned school safety improvements, we'd love to connect as this initiative develops. Online donations are not being accepted at this time.
